Description

Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is an anionic polyelectrolyte synthesized from sodium chloroacetate and alkali-cellulose. Available in high-viscosity (HV-CMC), low-viscosity (LV-CMC) and alkaline medium-viscosity grades. Soluble in cold/hot water forming a viscous colloidal solution.

Characteristics declared for the product and stated conditions. Selection and performance subject to technical evaluation of the fluid system.

Appearance

White or off-white fibrous powder.

Properties

Na-CMC is long-chain high-molecular anionic cellulose ether. White/pale-yellow fibrous powder; per the manufacturer's documentation, odorless and non-toxic. Soluble in cold/hot water for transparent viscous neutral-to-slightly-alkaline solution. Insoluble in ethanol, ether, isopropanol, acetone; soluble in 60% aqueous ethanol or acetone. Solid CMC is stable under light and ambient temperature for long-term dry storage. It is hygroscopic until moisture equilibrium. For safety determinations, consult the applicable SDS.

Main Advantages

  • Good chemical stability, resistant to deterioration.
  • Physiologically harmless per the manufacturer's documentation for the technical grade; for safety determinations, consult the applicable SDS.
  • Suspending and emulsifying stabilization.
  • Good bonding and salt-resistance.
  • Forms smooth, tough, transparent film.
  • Stable against oil and organic solvents.

Application

Widely applied in petroleum, food, textile, pharmaceutical, paper-making and daily-chemical industries. For oilfield chemistry: used as viscosifier, stabilizer and fluid-loss controller for drilling fluids; fluid-loss reducer for oil-well cement; thickener for acidizing and fracturing operations.

Dosage Guidance

No specific dosage percentage is documented for this grade; only its function and test conditions are reported.

Indicative range from technical documentation. Final dosage requires testing and evaluation of the fluid system.

Packaging & Storage

Packed in 3-in-1 composite bags with inner PE liner, net weight 25 kg per bag. Store in cool, dry and ventilated warehouse. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing; rinse abundantly with water upon contact. Keep away from fire sources.
