Carboxymethyl Starch (CMS) — Standard Grade

Fluid Loss Control
Family: Carboxymethyl Starch (CMS) Code: CMS Product last updated: January 2026

Supply evaluation upon request — Legal Notice & Commercial Scope

Description

Produced by alkalization and etherification of starch to introduce hydrated carboxymethyl groups. Excellent saturated-salt-water resistance and calcium-resistance. Mitigates filtrate-rise caused by cement and calcium-ion contamination. Low-cost raw material, ideal for cost-sensitive drilling projects. Better performance combined with biocide.

Characteristics declared for the product and stated conditions. Selection and performance subject to technical evaluation of the fluid system.

Appearance

White / pale-yellow free-flowing powder / granules.

Main Advantages

  • Good fluid-loss control up to saturated-salt condition.
  • Low price for cost-efficient drilling.

Technical note: The manufacturer's descriptive text mentions fluid-loss control "down to ≤2 mL"; that figure is a narrative claim and does not appear as a specification in this table, so it is not used as a guaranteed limit.

Application

Directly applicable in diverse water-based mud systems; compatible with multiple mud additives. Recommended dosage: 1%–3%. Recommended mud pH 9–12. For fresh-water / low-salt mud below 60 °C, add biocide to prevent mud fermentation.

Dosage Guidance

1%–3%. Recommended mud pH: 9–12.

Indicative range from technical documentation. Final dosage requires testing and evaluation of the fluid system.

Packaging & Storage

3-in-1 composite bags with PE liner, net 25 kg/bag. Cool dry ventilated warehouse.
